We’ve Been Here Since Before the Feed

WheresSpot started in 1999: before LinkedIn was a thing, before “social media” was a category, and long before anyone called it “the creator economy”. It started because people in production needed a better way to find each other, fast. That hasn’t changed. Production still runs on relationships, reputation, and the ability to go from signed estimate to crew locked, location scouting underway and stage booked before you go to sleep.

What has changed is where we live. We’ve migrated through platforms over the years, always moving to wherever we could best serve the community, including a Facebook group that grew to over 29,000 members. Now we’re building wheresspot.com as the home base this community has always deserved: forums, job listings, a real directory of vetted professionals, and more on the way.

The community spans every corner of production: TV, film, digital, experiential, print, audio, advertising, and everything in-between. Any position, any discipline, anywhere in the world. We’re global, and we’re deliberate about who’s here. Every member is vetted, because the quality of this community is something we’ve earned over 25 years and take seriously.

Here’s what WheresSpot is at its core: a place where you can post a job and trust the people who respond. A place where you can ask which post house is reliable in a city you’ve never worked in and get five real answers within the hour. A place where the harder questions get answered too: how to handle a client who won’t pay, what a fair rate looks like in a changing market, whether that new piece of kit is actually worth it. A place where the industry talks honestly about where things are headed: AI, shifting business models, what’s being lost and what might be gained. We’ve brought members together for presentations on real issues: shooting safely during a pandemic, equity and inclusion in production. We organize events so this community can meet in person, not just online. That’s something we’re committed to doing more of.

Production is deadline-driven, relationship-powered, and mercilessly small. Everyone knows everyone, eventually. WheresSpot just makes the “eventually” happen faster.

If you work in production or hire the people who do: you belong here. You always have.

The Future

After 25 years of building a powerhouse community of creators, producers, and decision-makers, we’re launching our next chapter: WheresSpot.com—our new, fully independent home.

In recent years, Facebook has been our hub. It’s where gigs were landed, teams were built, and hard-earned knowledge was shared daily.

But we’ve outgrown it.

Posts disappear, connections get buried, and the incredible value of this community never quite sticks in a way that lasts. WheresSpot.com changes that.

This is a space designed for us. Conversations endure, connections are easier, and the collective wisdom of the community becomes a true, living resource.

Our Facebook group isn’t going away—it becomes the front porch, a place to gather and point the way to everything happening on the new site.

Now we’re building something built to last.

To make it happen, we’re raising support to fund the ongoing costs of running a modern, independent platform. If WheresSpot has ever helped you land a job, make a connection, or solved a problem, or if you simply appreciate what we’re building, we invite you to help carry it forward.

Join us in building  the next 25 years. Support us, here.
